A man was killed in a road accident in Kuthipara area on the Pabna-Nagarbari Highway
in Santhia upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 35, son of Shahidul Islam of Fulbaria
village of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge Rabiul Islam of Ataikula Police Station said a speeding truck ran over
Shariful when he was crossing the road in the area around 7.00am, killing him on the
spot.
Incensed at the death, locals blocked the highway for about one and a half hours.
They also demanded construction of a speed breaker in the area to curb road accidents.
Later, the road blockade was lifted as police rushed in and assured the locals of taking
steps to address their demands.
Meanwhile, police detained the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene. -UNB,Pabna
