Income tax of more than Taka 77 crore was collected in a weeklong Tax
Fair-2013 that concluded formally on Jafar Imam Tennis Complex here
yesterday.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) organised the fair for the third
consecutive time in the city like other divisional cities to inspire
the taxpayers in paying more income tax along with generating new more
taxpayers.
According to the officials concerned, this year’s earning is Taka 1.5
lakh more than that of the previous year.
On the closing day of the fair, the taxpayers’ turnout was
significantly higher than that of the earlier days triggering the
submission of return forms and tax payment.
Some 2,300 return forms were submitted and 200 of those were new ones.
Besides, more than 13,650 taxpayers received different services from
the fair. Apart from this, 3,536 taxpayers have done e-TIN
registration in the fair.
In the fair, there were nine stalls opened from 9am to 5pm everyday.
New taxpayers collected their tax identification numbers (TINs) while
the earlier TIN holders submitted their income tax returns at the
fair.
Income Tax officials were present at the fair providing advice and
suggestions on income tax, TIN certificates and assist the taxpayers
in filling out the Income Tax Return forms. Janata and Sonali banks
set up booths to help the taxpayers in paying income taxes.
The Tax Zone has realized income taxes worth Taka 255 crore in the
last 2012-13 fiscal year, up by Taka 36 crore than the previous
2011-12 fiscal. Besides, the figure of taxpayers was around 1.10 lakh
in 2012-13 fiscal and amount of tax collection was Taka 184 crore from
around one lakh taxpayers in 2011-12 fiscal.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Tax Zone Sunil Kumar Shaha, Additional Tax
Commissioner (Appellate) Dr Khandaker Ferdous Alam, Additional
Commissioner SBM Rashidun Nabi, Joint Commissioners Abul Kalam and
Munshi Harunur Rashid and Deputy Commissioners Wakil Ahmed and
Jahangir Alam were present at the closing ceremony, among others.
“We are satisfied over the tax collection and return form submission
along with seeing curiosity among the general public about the tax
payments system in the weeklong fair,” said Commissioner Sunil Shaha.
Besides, he said: “We have set a target to realize taxes worth Taka
275 crore in the current 2013-14 fiscal and we are hopeful of taining
the target by the end of the fiscal”. -BSS, Rajshahi
