Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque has urged the government
to take steps to end the ‘political impasse’ in the ongoing 19th
Parliament session.
“The Parliament session is expected to end tomorrow (Thursday)…solve
the [ongoing political] crisis in this session,” he told a rally on
Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, a group of BNP lawmakers took out a procession in
the Parliament complex in support of the Opposition’s 60-hour
countrywide shutdown.
The 10th national election will be held by Jan 24, 2014 under the
incumbent government’s supervision.
The BNP has been demanding a non-party caretaker government to oversee
the polls, claiming election under a partisan body will not be ‘free
and fair’.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has proposed an all-inclusive
interim government.
But the BNP-led alliance has rejected the proposal and clung to its
non-party government demand.
It has threatened to boycott the national polls if not held under a
neutral body.
The current session, started on Sept 12, is expected to end on
Thursday as per the Business Advisory Committee’s decision.
Farroque, also the BNP’s publications secretary, criticised extension
of the session’s tenure.
He said the national election must be held with everyone’s
participation. – bdnews24.com
