The government is in a way abating the Opposition-sponsored
countrywide shutdown, Krishak Sramik Janata League chief Kader
Siddique has said.
He made the comment after a meeting with BNP acting Secretary General
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday.
Kader, a valiant freedom-fighter, was once in the Awami League fold
but chose to break away later.
The BNP-led 18-Party alliance enforced a 60-hour lockdown to drive
home a non-party government to oversee the parliamentary election.
The shutdown ends on Wednesday.
Kader believes the present political standoff would not end unless the
government conceded the opposition demand for a non-party polls-time
government.
He claimed that the people would be happy to see Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina step down.
Kader Siddiqui was received by BNP Metropolitan Member Secretary Abdus
Salam on his arrival at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
He said he had not come to urge the Opposition to withdraw the strike
