DSE, CSE register loss Monday after consecutive 7-day gain

Country’s both the bourses – Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – registered loss on the second day of the week on Monday, after consecutive gain over last seven trading sessions.   On the second day of the nationwide 84-hour countrywide hartal and political
violence, prices of large number of issues decreased on Monday. The BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance called for the 84-hour hartal that began Sunday morning.   However, the volume of trade in terms of value was higher in both the markets today (Monday) than on Sunday. The price losing issues were mainly from banking sector and financial institutions.   The DSE benchmark index, DSEX lost 46.19 points or 1.08 percent to reach 4198.50 at close of trading today (Monday). Of the 292 issues traded, 148 gained, 124 declined and 20 remained unchanged. Shares worth Tk Tk 543.38 crore changed hands on the day against Tk 498.42 crore on Sunday.   The day’s top 10 losers at the DSE were Eastern Bank, First Security Bank, Mercantile Bank, IFIC Bank, BD Autocar, Uttara Bank, Eastern Cables, First Lease Finance,
Rupali Bank, and Premier Bank.   The CSE key index, CSCX lost 66.72 points to reach 8197.25 at the close today (Monday). Of the 221 issues traded, 116 gained, 90 declined and 15 remained unchanged. The value of the traded
issues was Tk 61.36 today against Tk 53.08 crore on Sunday.   Earlier, in
the morning, the DSEX gained 54.62 points or 1.28 percent to reach 4299.32
at 11:10 am while the CSCX gained 63.79 points to stand at 8327.76, also at
11:10 am today. – UNB
