India makes fresh promise to ratify Land Boundary Agreement

India has again assured Bangladesh of a fresh attempt to ratify the
Land Boundary Agreement during the winter session of Parliament
beginning next month.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni was told of the new move by the Indian
Government for a constitutional amendment to ratify the deal when she
called on her Indian counterpart Salman Khurshid at Gurgaon near New Delhi
on Monday.
The agreement means there would be a direct swap of enclaves each nation
claims are embedded inside the territory of the other.
Khurshid, however, was prevented from introducing the amendment in the
Rajya Sabha – the upper house of Indian Parliament—each time he tried
during the monsoon session. It was first obstructed by the BJP and then by
Trinamul and the Asom Gana Parishad.
According to diplomatic sources in New Delhi, he also touched upon the
issue of explosion near the Deupty High Commission of India in Chittagong
on Sunday.
Moni is touring India to attend the ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Foreign
Ministers’ conference, which is being hosted by New Delhi.-bdnews24.com
