An appeal has been filed in the High Court to keep ministers and state
ministers from carrying on with their job after having resigned.
On Monday, 52 ministers had handed their resignation letters to Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina to make way for an interim, all-party cabinet
to oversee the 10th parliamentary election.Lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand filed a writ on behalf of Md Abdul Khalek
Monir, editor of the monthly newspaper ‘SAARC HIV Aids Madork Barta’
on Thursday, challenging the ministers’ continuation in office.
Altogether 45 ministers, state ministers and the Cabinet were named defendants.
The appeal seeks a court ruling asking why the continuance in office
by ministers who have handed their resignation letters to the Prime
Minister should not be considered illegal.
