A Dhaka court on Monday placed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) General
Secretary Habibur Rahman Habib on a one-day remand for police
interrogation in a case filed with Ramna Police Station for his
alleged involvement in torching vehicles, obstructing police while
discharging their duties.
Earlier, Fazlul Haque, Detective Branch Police Inspector and
Investigation Officer of the case produced Habib to the court with a
10-day remand prayer, while Magistrate Keshab Roy Chowdhury of Dhaka’s
Chief Metropolitan (CMM) Court passed the order after hearing.
The Magistrate rejected Habib’s bail petition and granted the remand.
On Sunday DB Police arrested Habib from his Shantinagar residence in
the capital.
On November 15, Sechchasebak Dal General Secretary Meer Sarfat Alki
Safu and Organising Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu were also placed on a
five-day remand each.
In another case a court in Dhaka rejected pleas of the prosecution to
place former Chhatra Dal President Sultan Salauddin Tuku on 31days’
fresh remand in separate cases filed with Motijheel and Paltan Police
Stations of the capital.
However, the court allowed the Investigation Officer to interrogate
Tuku at the jail gate for three days in each case, if necessary.
Tuku is presently on 20 days’ remand in five cases. On Nov 14, the
prosecution had sought 60 days’ remand against him in six cases, when
the court granted this remand.
Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court Magistrate MA Salam
also rejected prosecution’s remand pleas to put Tuku on remand in two
more cases on Monday.
Tuku’s lawyers’ moved petitions for his bail in six cases and the
Magistrate rejected the petitions.
On October 21, at night Tuku was detained by police from a CSF car
that was kept with the team, in charge of the security of the
Opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia. Some untoward incident happened
at BNP’s central office at Noyapaltan, when Khaleda went there to see
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, ailing Joint Secretary of the party. – Court
