A Dhaka court on Monday awarded death sentence to one person and life-term imprisonments to 12 others in a case filed for killing an Awami League leader of Kishorganj in 2005.Judge ABM Shajedur Rahman of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 passed the in a case filed for killing Rabiullah Member of Maij Char in Bajitpur Upazila of Kishorganj on April 25, 2005.
Absconding convict Kamal Mia was sentenced to death and the life sentenced four fugitives are: Rubel Mia, Rupak, Sohel and Shahel Mia. Other eight life-term imprisoned convicts are Dayal Mia, Anaras Mia, Shahin Mia, Prakash Mia, Abul Mia, Nurul Islam alias Sujit, Mamun and Rana Sikder. The verdict was pronounced in presence of these convicts and they were brought to the court from the jail.
The life-term sentenced convicts were also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default they will suffer one year more in prison.
The punishments of five fugitives will be implemented either after their surrender to the court or when they will be arrested.
The victim, General Secretary Maij Char Awami League was chopped discriminately and later he died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. The case record says that the inhuman incident happened due to previous enmity. – Court Correspondent
