Bangladesh on its way to achieve self-reliance on electricity

 

RANGPUR, Nov 22, 2013 (BSS) – Bangladesh has been achieving

continuous success in increasing power generation capacity on its

way to achieve completely self-reliance on electricity at its own

very soon, speakers at a launching ceremony said today.

Member of the Parliament from Panchagarh-2 seat Advocate

Nurul Islam Shujan said this after switching on of the eight-

kilometre newly built power supply line for Shaldanga

Maddyasikarpur village under Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh

district as the chief guest.

 

With the switching on of the power supply line, 224

residential connections, 10 connections for the charitable

organisations, 36 connections for the deep tube wells and five

industrial connections were brought under the electricity supply.

 

The Rural Electrification Board (REB) implemented

construction works of the power supply line at a cost of Taka

1.08 lakh to fulfill the long-cherished demand of hundreds of

people of the area.

 

With Deputy General Manager of Panchagarh Zone of Thakurgaon

Polli Bidyut Samity Mobasser Hossain in the chair, chairman of

Shaldanga union parishad Hasnat Zaman Chowdhury Judge attended

the ceremony as special guest.

 

Upazila level government officials, officials of REB,

hundreds of local people including farmers, civil society

members, professionals, teachers, students and elite were

present.

 

The speakers said the nation has already achieved laudable

success in generating power as the country will become self-

reliant on electricity very soon following the effective steps

taken by the present government during the past five years.

 

They suggested the people for sincerely using power,

utilisation of energy saving bulbs and digital meters, timely

payment of electricity bills, less power consumption during peak

hours, preventing illegal power connections etc to save

electricity.

 

The chief guest suggested the concerned authorities,

officials and experts to ensure excellent management in power

generation and supply systems to make the best use of electricity

and reduce the system loss to the minimum.
