Govt to procure 64,876 tonnes Aman rice from Rangpur division

The government has set a target of procuring 64,876 tonnes of Aman rice from all 58 upazilas in eight districts under Rangpur division during this season, official sources said.

Beginning for December 1 last, the thee-month long Aman rice procurement drive will continue till February 28 next year, Rangpur Regional Controller of Food Abdullah Al Mamun said.

As per the set government target, the Department of Food (DF) has already started Aman rice procurement at places while the process of signing agreements with the rice mill owners will continue till December 10 next.

According to food department officials, the government has fixed purchasing rate for boiled Aman rice at Taka 30 per kg for this season.

Under the programme, 5,025 tonnes of Aman rice will be procured from Rangpur, 4,157 tonnes from Kurigram, 3,200 tonnes from Lalmonirhat, 5,764 tonnes from Gaibandha, 4,191 tonnes from Nilphamari, 3,615 tonnes from Panchagarh, 14.402 tonnes from Thakurgaon and 24,522 tonnes Aman rice from Dinajpur districts in the division.

The process of signing agreements with the millers still continues and the procurement drive will get full momentum soon everywhere in Rangpur division, the Regional Controller said. -BSS Rangpur
