Acting secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the people would certainly achieve the victory in the ongoing movement for restoration of democracy in the country.
The BNP leader made the comment while talking to reporters after placing floral wrath at the National Mausoleum at Savar to mark the Victory Day.
Terming the ongoing movement as the movement to safeguard the rights of franchise for the people, he said the countrymen have been carrying out the movement to protect the voting rights of the people.
“Country’s democracy is now confined. People will rescue it by intensifying the movement under the leadership of Khaleda Zia,” he added.
Earlier, the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia paid rich tribute to the great sons of the soil, who made supreme sacrifices during the war of liberation in 1971.
The BNP chairperson flanked by her party senior leaders placed wreaths at the National Mausoleum around 8:10am.
Senior party leaders including Fakhrul Islam Alamgir were present on the occasion.
The opposition leader also observed one-minute silence to show her respects to the memories of martyrs of the liberation war. She left the National Monument area at about 8:35am.
Later, Khaleda Zia went to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to visit the mazar of President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the BNP, paid tribute to him by placing wrath at about 9:15am.
BNP standing committee leaders— Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, vice chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, BNP chairperson’s adviser Osman Faruk, Barrister Shajahan Omar, Major (Retd) Ruhul Amin Chowdhury, Abdul Salam and other leaders of the BNP and its front organisations were present on the occassion. – Staff Reporter
