A Ganajagaran Mancha organiser, Bappaditya Basu, was injured when bombs were hurled at the rickshaw in which he was travelling on Saturday.
The rickshaw puller was also injured. Both of them were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Tanvir Rushmat, General Secretary of Chhatra Moitri, said the incident took place in front of the Aziz Super Market near capital’s Shahbagh where Ganajagaran Mancha is entrenched.Basu is the President of Chhatra Moitri, a left-leaning student group. Rushmat said splinters penetrated into his legs. “But the rickshaw puller sustained more severe injuries”.
The youth-led group Ganajagaran Mancha, which has been pressing for the maximum punishment of war criminals, on Saturday called for boycotting Pakistani goods in protest against its Parliament’s resolution in favour of Abdul Quader Molla.
Molla was hanged to death for his crimes against humanity in 1971 war of independence, when he sided with Pakistan.
Basu was distributing leaflets around the Elephant Road area calling for boycott of Pakistani goods, spokesperson of the Mancha Imran H Sarkar said.
“We think Jamaat-Shibir might have attacked him,” he said.
Meanwhile, Handmade bombs have been hurled at Ganajagaran Manch activists in Bogra on Saturday, the first day of the Opposition’s countrywide blockade.
Bogra Sadar Police Station OC Manjurul Haque Bhuiyan said that the bomb attacked took place around 11am at the city’s ‘Saatmatha Zero Point’.
The local Ganajagaran Manch convener Masudur Rahman Helal said that the bombs were lobbed when they were preparing to protest police action against Manch activists in Dhaka.
Three including Helal suffered minor injuries during the blast.
The police fired rubber bullets following the explosions to bring the situation under control, sub-inspector Manju said- bdnews24.com
