AL office damaged in Joypurhat

Opposition supporters have damaged and set fire to the Panchbibi Upazila Awami League office in Joypurhat. This followed a clash between BNP and Awami league supporters at the Upazila Sadar on Sunday.The clash started at 11am, when BNP supporters set fire to houses and shops of ruling party activists. Local Upazila administration enforced prohibitory orders in the Panchbibi municipal area until 10pm.
BNP activists blocked various roads from early Sunday in the Upazila, said Nur Hossain, OC at Panchbibi Police Station. They also clashed with Awami League supporters frequently,he said.
“Blockade supporters also exploded four to five bombs during the clash. They also set fire to the Awami League office,” said the police officer.
“They then set alight houses and business establishments of the Awami League supporters,” he said. Firemen rushed to the scene and doused the fire in half an hour.
Apart from clamping the prohibitory orders, police, BGB and RAB men have been deployed there to avert any untoward incident. The 18-Party alliance has been enforcing shutdown and blockade across the country demanding postponement of the Jan 5 polls.
Their fifth spell of blockade started from 6am on Saturday and is to end at 5pm on Wednesday. – bdnews24.com
