Dhaka – Awami League Presidium member Syeda Zohra Tajuddin, who died on Friday, was laid to eternal rest on Sunday evening. Zohra, also the wife of country’s first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, was buried at Banani Graveyard in the capital around 7pm.The Awami League leader died of old-age complications at a city hospital on Friday morning at the age of 80. A pall of gloom descended on Kapasia of Gazipur, the AL leader’s birthplace, after her body reached there from the capital on Sunday. Many were seen weeping their eyes.
Three namaz-e-janazas of Zohra attended by huge numbers of people were held in her native district.
Zohra’s son and former State Minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj, members of parliament (MPs) and political leaders, among others, attended the first janaza held at Dardaria Primary School field in Kapasia.
Later, the second and third janazas were held respectively at Kapasia High School field and Bhawal Rajbari field in the Gazipur city.
Earlier on Friday, two more janazas were held respectively on the compound of Gulshan Azad Mosque and the Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
During the second janaza, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had paid homage to Syeda Zohra Tajuddin by placing a wreath at her coffin kept in front of the AL central office at the Bangabandhu Avenue.
Leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies, including Jubo League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Swechchhasebak League and Mohila Awami League, and Dhaka City Awami League had also placed wreaths at her coffin.
A munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Zohra Tajuddin.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death Syeda Zohra Tajuddin. – UNB
