A Dhaka court on Thursday asked police to interrogate BNP lawmaker Shammi Akhter and former BNP MP Sarder Shakhawat Hossain Bakul at the jail gate in two separate cases filed with Banani and Bhatara Police stations in the capital.Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Md Maruf Hossain passed the order rejecting the bail pleas of the accused and the remand prayers of the investigation officers of the cases to interrogate the leaders at the jail gate within five and eight working days respectively.
The court also directed the jail authorities to make arrangements for necessary medical treatment of two leaders.
Shammi Akhter was produced to the court at 3.30 pm seeking five days’ police remand while Shakhawat Hossain was produced to the same court earlier at 2.00 pm seeking seven days’ remand.
Of the two leaders Shakhawat Hossain was shown arrested in a case filed with Bhatara Police Station in connection with torching a vehicle at Baridhara area of the city on October 26. While Shammi Akhter MP was shown arrested in a case filed with Bananni Police Station for vandalizing a vehicle in front of Titumir College on January 5 of this year.
Defence lawyers including Md Sanaullah Miah and Masud Ahamed Talukder, moved petitions seeking bail of the two BNP leaders rejecting prosecution’s remand pleas.
Police detained Shammi Akhter and Shakawat Hossain, on Wednesday evening while they were entering into BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the city. – Court Correspondent
