14 oppn men arrested in Joypurhat

Joint force in a drive arrested 14 activists of the main opposition BNP and its political allies Jamaat-Shibir from five upazilas of the district early Saturday for their involvement in vandalism and subversive activities.

District police control room sources said a team of joint force, comprising members of police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard Bangladesh, led by Superintendent of Police Hamidul Alam, conducted an all-out drive in Panchbibi, Akkelpur, Kalai, Khetlal and Sadar upazilas of the district from Friday midnight to early Saturday.
The law enforcers then arrested the 14 opposition men on charges of vandalism, arson attacks, fishplate removal from rail tracks and assaulting police during the BNP-led 18-party-enforced nationwide hartals and blockades.
The arrestees include two from Sadar upazila, five from Panchbibi, four from Akkelpur, two from Kalai and one from Khetlal.
Among them are one BNP activist, 10 Jamaat activists and three Shibir activists. -UNB, Joypurhat
