Miscreants set ablaze four election centres and one union Awami League office in Sadar and Amtoli upazilas of the district in the early hours of today.
Assistant police super of Barguna Sadar circle Jayed Shahriar visited the spots and said miscreants set fire to Lemua Government Primary School, Pathakata Government Primary School and K. Latabaria Government Primary School of Sadar upazila and Arpangashia Union AL Office and a government primary school of Amtoli upazila.
Furniture and other essential documents and papers were burnt to ashes in the fire, he added. –BSS, Barguna
Robber’ killed in Sirajganj ‘shootout’
A suspected robber was killed in a shootout between police and his cohorts in Kamarkhand upazila on Friday night.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kamarkhand police station, said informed by locals that a gang of robbers was committing robbery on Jhaoil over-bridge, a team of police in the guise of passengers came in at about 10:30 pm.
As the police team tried to approach the robbers, they opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back.
At one stage, a member of the gang was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
