Dhaka – Fourteen candidates in constituencies under nine districts boycotted the national election on Sunday on various allegations.
Among the candidates, one each is in Manikganj, Sirajganj, Gazipur and Lalmonirhat, two are each in Gaibandah, Sylhet, Laxmipur, Khulna and
Jamalpur districts.
In Sirajganj, rebel Awami League candidate Ataur Rahman Ratan in Sirajganj-5 constituency announced his election boycott at noon
alleging that supporters of ruling party candidate were forcibly casting fake votes.
In Lalmonirhat, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) nominated candidate Sadiqul Islam announced to boycott polls also at noon bringing the
allegation of vote rigging against ruling party candidates.
In Jamalpur, independent candidate Aziz Ahmed Hasan in Jamalpur-1 and Babar Ali Khan of Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) in Jamalpur-5 constituencies boycotted the polls bringing similar allegations.
Besides, JSD candidate Afjal Hossain Khan in Manikganj-1 parliamentary seat, AL candidate Monwar Hossain Chowdhury in Gaibandha-4 and
independent candidate Khademul Islam Khudi in Gaibandha-3, JP candidate MM Anwar Hossain in Gazipur-4, Rashida Karim of JP in
Khulna-2, AL rebel candidate Moniruzzaman Khan Shimul in Khulna-3, two independent candidates Azad Uddin Chowdhury and Sharif Uddin in
Laxmipur-4, independent candidate Faruk Ahmed in Sylhet-4 and another Muhibur Rahman in Sylhet-2 announced polls boycott. – UNB
