PM asks security forces to be alert

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called on law enforcing agencies to be more alert to prevent anti-liberation forces from destablising the country.
“I ask every law enforcing agency including the Ansar to be alert so that anti-democratic and anti-liberation forces , like the BNP-Jamaat-Shibir combine and their collaborators cannot destablise the country,” she said while inaugurating the 34th national convention of Ansar-VDP in Gazipur on Wednesday. She also asked the people to be alert as well.Hasina said her government was determined to ensure the spirit of liberation war, rule of law and justice.
She said categorically the soil of Bangladesh would not be a haven for terrorists and militants.
The Prime Minister handed over medals to 16 former and present Ansar and VDP (Village Defence Party) personnel for bravery.
She hoped the Ansar personnel would discharge their duties honestly and professionally.
Hasina asked them to be friendly with the people and take special care of women, children and senior citizens.
She remembered the 670 Ansar personnel who attained martyrdom during the 1971 Liberation War.
The Prime Minister said BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir had destroyed government and private properties ahead of Jan 5 parliamentary polls.
She said the Ansar and VDP members had played a role in foiling sabotage in rail tracks.
Two Ansar members died and three others were injured while working to protect rail tracks during the nonstop blockade sponsored by BNP-Jamaat alliance.
The Prime Minister also thanked the Ansar members for their responsible role in the Jan 5 polls.
One Ansar member died and 20 others were injured during poll duty.
Hasina sympathised with the bereaved families.
