Two armymen and three BGB personnel died on Wednesday after a mortar shell exploded disconcertingly during a training at Tangail.
The lnter Services Public Relations Directorate’s (ISPR) Assistant Director Noor Islam has been quoted as saying that the mortar shell exploded around 12pm during a military exercise.He, however, could not confirm the circumstances in which the mortar shell exploded. It was not yet clear whether the soldiers were hit by a stray shell after it was lobbed or whether they died in the explosion at the time the shell was being fired.
According to Ghatail Police Station OC Fazlul Kabir, the dead army personnel have been identified as ‘Parvez’ and ‘Manju’ while the killed BGB troopers are Abu Sufian, ‘Ekramul’ and Mohammad Ali.
“The BGB members came from Joypurhat to attend training. The killed army personnel, ranked as Warrant Officers, were their instructors.”
He said that 14 others injured have been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital of Ghatail Cantonment. Of them, five were being shifted to Dhaka. – bdnws24.com
