BNP vice chairmen Sadeque Hossain Khoka and Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed have been released from prisons on Wednesday.
Sadeque Hossain Khoka, who is also former Dhaka city mayor, was released from Dhaka Central Jail in the afternoon as he secured bail in all the nine cases filed against him.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has been released from Naraynaganj Central Jail also in the afternoon.Khoka was arrested from a residence at Uttara on December 4 and he was shown arrest in two cases filed at Shahbagh and Ramna police stations in connection with hurling petrol bombs on buses. Later, he was shown arrest in seven more cases.
Monirul Islam Khan, personal assistant to Khoka, said that the BNP leader was released at about 5:00pm from the central jail.
“Huge number of BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of the jail gate to receive him (Khoka),” he said.
Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed was arrested from in front of the National Press Club on December 29 when then BNP-led 18-party alliance enforced non-stop blockade programme across the country. – Staff Reporter
