A middle-aged woman and her young daughter allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Pania village in Shreenagar upazila on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Monimala, 40, and her daughter Shanta, 18. Locals said Shanta has been in love with her father’s cousin for a long time. As Monimala came to know the matter, she rebuked her daughter Shanta on Tuesday night. The mother and the daughter again involved in an altercation over the same issue around 09:00am on Wednesday, prompting Monimala to take her life by swallowing poison in a huff. The mother was rushed to Dhaka Mitford Hospital where she died around 12 noon Hearing her mother‘s death news, Shanta also took poison in her bid to commit suicide. She was first taken to Shreenagar Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Dhaka Mitford Hospital where she died around 3pm.
