BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday expressed her vow to restore democracy in the country at any cost.
“We have made the country independent but it has been threatened. Our movement to sustain our independence will continue,” she said while addressing a function organised to mark the celebration of Bangla New Year.Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) organised the function at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
The programme was followed by a colourful function. BNP cultural affairs secretary Gazi Majharul Anwar conducted the programme.
Meanwhile, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday claimed that party’s senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman had revealed the historical truths in respect of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the independence of Bangladesh.
He made the remark while addressing at a protest rally at the National Press Club in the city. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, organised the rally protesting the ongoing propaganda against Tarique Rahman.
The BNP leader said the languages of Awami League leaders against Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman has proved that the ruling party has become politically bankrupt.
The BNP spokesperson challenged the AL leaders to probe that Tarique’s remarks were untrue.
He compared Tarique Rahman with communist leader and former Cuban president Fidel Castro.
The BNP leader termed the propaganda against Khaleda and Tarique as part of blueprint of those who have taken position against Bangladesh.
He suggested AL leaders to read out books to know the real history of the country.
Former JCD president Fazlul Haque, BNP’s international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon, former general secretary of DACSU Khairul Kabir Khokon, among others, spoke at the protest rally. JCD acting president Bazlul Karim Chowdhury presided over the rally.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference on Tuesday said the party has been taken preparation for greater mass movement to protect the country and its people.
The press conference was held at party’s headquarters at Naya Paltan to mark the Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Parishad election.
The BNP leader alleged that the ruling AL has taken all-out preparation to snatch the election result in the favour of their party backed candidate by using the administration and the Election Commission. – Staff Reporter
