The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) submitted the charge sheet against 12 people for the murder of Juba League leader Riazul Haque Milki on Tuesday noon.
Investigation Officer (IO) of RAB-1, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kazemur Rashid submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.
One of the accused is Juba League leader Jahid Siddiqui Tarek who was killed in an ‘encounter’ with RAB later. Another suspect Shah Alam was also killed in ‘shootout’ with RAB members on August 1.Other accused people include Sakhawat Hossain Chanchal, Fahima Islam Lopa, M Jahangir Mondal, M Shahidul Islam, Aminul Islam Habib, Sohel Mahmud, M Chunnu Miah, M Wahidul Alam Arif, Ibarahim Khalilullah, Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury and M Sharif Uddin Chowdhury Pappu.
Of these people, Fahima Islam was on bail while Sakhawat Hossain, Arif, Ibrahim and Rafiqul Islam were on the run. The rest five accused: Jahangir Mandal, M Shahidul Islam, Aminul Islam Habib, Sohel Mahmud and M Chunnu Miah are in jail custody.
Rab arrested Lopa, wife of Milky’s driver and close associate Maruf Reza Sarar on August 3, who made confessional statement before a court of Dhaka the following day admitting her involvement with the murder.
Six other accused are on the run. They include Ibrahim Khalilullah, Rafiqul Islam and Sharif Uddin Chowdhury.
Twenty-six people were made witnesses and nine people were dropped from the list of the accused, said SI Farid Miah told the newsmen.
The charge sheet says, Milky, organizing secretary of Dhaka city (South) unit of Juba League, was gunned down by his close associate Taek, who was also joint secretary of the unit and Aminul Islam Habib, in front of Shoppers World at Gulshan in the city in the wee hours of July 30 last year.
Major Rashedul Haque Khan, elder brother of victim Milky, filed a case against 11 identified and some unidentified people on the same day.
Hours after the killing, Rab arrested prime accused Tarek from a hospital at Uttara in the capital.
A closed-circuit camera (CCTV) in the shopping mall picked up details of the murder.
RAB had arrested Juba League leader Tarek with injuries from a hospital after Milki was killed. He was identified as the shooter from the CCTV footage.
Tarek later died in an alleged encounter between his supporters and RAB in Khilkhet, while he was being taken to Gulshan Police Station from Uttara.
Riazul Haque Khan Milki’s brother Major Rashidul Haque Khan had filed the case with the Gulshan police naming 11, including Tarek, for the murder. – Court Correspondent
