At least 15 people, including a member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), were injured in a clash between students of Barisal University and law enforces at Kornakathi in Sadar upazila on Thursday.
Witnesses said students of the university put up barricade on the Barisal-Patuakhali Highway in front of the BU campus around 11:00 am and were demonstrating there torching tyres, protesting assault on a student of the university by transport workers in a bus in the morning.
The students alleged that helper and driver of a bus beat up a student of the university in the bus while going to the campus in the morning.
After a while, a joint team of police and Rab appeared at the spot and asked the agitating students to leave the place.
As the demonstrators refused to go away, the law enforcers fired rubber bullets and lobbed teargas canisters at them, leaving over 14 of them injured.
Later, the agitating students threw brick chips at law enforces, leaving a Rab personnel wounded.
