JMCH vandalised over patient’s death

Angry relatives vandalised Jessore Medical College Hospital (JMCH) following death of a patient for alleged negligence in treatment.

The victim was identified as Jamshed Ali.

Victim’s family said Jashed Ali had been admitted to the hospital with severe pain in the stomach on April 25.

He was admitted at the male ward of the hospital under Dr Madhusudhan Pal.

On Sunday night, Jamshed died after he was given an injection prescribed by Dr Yunus Ali of the hospital.

Outraged by the death, his relatives vandalised the male ward and nurses’ stat injuring two nurses.

JMCH director-in-charge Dr Yakub ali formed a three member investigation committee to work in this regard.

An alleged robber was killed and three people, including two policemen, were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Hasanpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Daudkandi upazila early Monday.

Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.

Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said a gang of robbers intercepted a Cox’s Bazar-bound private car from Dhaka on the highway at about 3:00 am.

The robbers opened fire on Tajel Barua, driver of the car, while he was trying to flee the scene.

At that time, a team of police which was on patrol in the area obstructed the gang of robbers who fired shots at them, leaving sub-inspector (SI) Atikur Rahman and constable Yusuf bullet-hit.

Police in retaliation fired back leaving a robber also bullet-hit.

The injured robber was rushed to Gouripur Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

A case was filed in this connection.

An alleged mugger was injured as police fired bullets at him while arresting him at Chachra Kalitala in Sadar upazila on Sunday.

The injured was identified as Anwar, son of Faruq Hossain, of Chachra Raipara area.

Sub-inspector Jamaluddin of Chachra police camp said they had information that a gang of muggers, who snatched a gold chain of a woman from Raiprara of the district town on Saturday evening, were chatting with one another at Bodhyabhumi of Kalitala at noon.

A team of police conducted a drive to arrest them.

Sensing the presence of police, muggers attacked the law enforces, promoting them to fire three rounds of bullet that left the alleged mugger Anwar injured in his knee.

Injured Anwar was taking treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital under police custody.

Police recovered the snatched gold chain, one shooter gun and one bullet from the spot.
