Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Monday dismissed report of his resignation from the party terming it mere a rumour. “To whom I’ll tender my resignation? Who is this great man? Why should I resign when I am the supreme authority of the party?” Ershad told UNB. Ershad, who founded the party, said Jatiya Party will have no existence without him as long as he is alive. “I don’t have any plan to quit the party.” Earlier at a joint meeting of the party on Sunday, some party leaders, including opposition leader Roushan Ershad, made aggressive remarks pointing at Ershad, making the former military ruler seemingly upset. Later, an online portal posted a report that Ershad has sent his resignation to Jatiya Party Secretary General Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu. Ershad is apparently loosing his control over the party after his wife Raushon Ershad joined the 10th parliamentary polls reportedly defying his decision to boycott it. Raushon was elected leader of the opposition in parliament as the Jatiya Party got 34 seats in the election held on January 5 amid the boycott by BNP. On April 10, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, known a Raushon loyalist, was made Jatiya Party secretary general replacing ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader. – UNB
