BPC Chairman calls for maintaining objective journalism

Chairman of Bangladesh Press Council (BPC)Justice Muhammed Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed here on Monday urged the media men to project objective news upholding the spirit of the War of Liberation as it is the true foundation of democracy in the country.
Bangladesh Press Council Act was framed at the initiative of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1974 with a view to making a liaison between the government and the media men to safeguard the democracy and sovereignty of the country, he added.He was speaking at a view exchange meeting with the local print and electronic media men to raise awareness about the code of conduct framed by BPC at the Conference Hall of the deputy commissioner.Organized by the district administration, the view exchange meeting was addressed by secretary of BPC Shyamol Chandra Karmakar, president of Narayanganj Press Club Halim Azad and local journalists. Deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia presided over the meeting.The chairman said that BPC actively considering issuing charter to testify genuine journalists as per their quality of education and experience to check mushroom growth of newspapers which are spreading yellow journalism detrimental to democracy in the country.The Bangladesh Press Council will take up step to settle the defamation suit filed by the aggrieved parties against the journalists and newspapers instead of the court to stop harassment on journalists, the chairman added.NARAYANGANJ, Nov 25, 2014 (BSS)
