Call for building drug-, corruption-free society

Speakers at a rally here have stressed for engaging comprehensive efforts of all concerned, involving the people from all walks in life, for building a peaceful society free from drug abuse, corruption and terrorism.They were addressing the rally against drug abuse and corruption organised by Community Policing Forum of Ward Nos-2, 4 and 7 of Haridebpur union at Rotirampur playing ground under Sadar upazila here on Monday afternoon.Haridebpur union parishad and RDRS Bangladesh under the Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention (JRCP) Project, being implemented with assistance of German Development Cooperation (GIZ), extended cooperation in arranging the rally.Member of Haridebpur union Azizul Islam presided over the rally participated by civil society members, community leaders, teachers, students, youths, members of community policing committee, sociocultural and professional activists and local elite.Deputy Director of Rangpur Combined Office of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Kamrul Ahsan, President of District Corruption Prevention Committee (DCPC) Professor Mozammel Hossain, its General Secretary and valiant freedom fighter Akbar Hossain attended as the invited guests.Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana Abdul kader Zilani, Member-secretary of the District Coordination Committee of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick and Advocate Dilshad Islam Mukul addressed among others.Narrating grievous consequences of drug abuse among the younger generations and impacts of corruption, the speakers put emphasis on creating awareness among the common people for building a future society free from drug abuse and corruption.They stressed for launching social movement against drug abuse and corruption, involving the common people, youths, students and young generations, to save the future generations from dreadful wraths of drug aggression and corruption.They expressed concern over increasing use of drugs and narcotics substances and said drug abuse has created formidable threat and severe barrier to the normal growth and flourishing talent of the young generations and the nation as a whole.They called upon everybody for rooting out all sorts of social erosion and crimes like drug abuse, corruption, terrorist activities, mugging, extortion, thefts and other crimes for ensuring sustainable peace and tranquility with continuous progress.Deputy Director of the ACC Kamrul Ahsan stressed for educating the students on values of honesty and adverse impacts of drug abuse to build a society free from corruption and drug to make the hard- earned independence meaningful for every citizen.RANGPUR, Nov 25, 2014 (BSS)
