Abducted priest rescued in Lalmonirhat

Dhaka – Police have rescued a Hindu priest, who was allegedly abducted by a miscreant gang, from Moghalhat frontier in Rangpur-Lalmonirhat district early Saturday, Unb news agency reported.
The rescued man was identified as Uttom Kumar, 58, a resident in Pirganj Bus stand area and a priest of a temple at Osmanpur village in Pirgonj upazila of Rangpur district.Police said one of the miscreants gave Uttom Kumar phone call to go to s place in Gaibandha district for administering a marriage on Friday.
The gang of miscreants kidnapped him there and took him to Karnpur village at Moghalhat frontier in Lalmonirhat district. Later, the abductors confined the victim in a house and contacted the victim’s son Akash demanding Tk 1.50 lakh as ransom.
Akash informed the matter to police. Later, a team of Pirganj Police Station conducted a drive in the village and rescued the priest.
Police also arrested an alleged kidnapper, Anwar Hossain, in this connection, said officer- in- charge of the police station Rezaul Karim.
