The husband of the award-winning environmental lawyer Rizwana Hasan was whisked away in a blue microbus from Narayanganj, when on its way to Dhaka, police said.
Narayanganj’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Shahidul Islam said that they have identified the vehicle, used to abduct AB Siddique, from the CCTV footage of the toll plaza at Dhaka’s Jatrabari flyover.
“From the statements of the two eye-witnesses (to the abduction), we think that this is the vehicle which carried abducted AB Siddiqui,” he said.Armed assailants waylaid Siddique’s car at Narayanganj’s Bhuigarh and took him away in a van around 3pm Wednesday.
Born and raised in Narayanganj, Siddique was returning from a garment factory at Fatulla.
“Minutes after the abduction at 2:53 pm, the blue car passed the toll plaza of that flyover. The license plate read ‘Chittagong Metro-Ga- 17-8327’,” said ASP Islam, who is the member secretary of the committee formed to investigate the abduction.
Narayanganj police super Syed Nurul Islam told reporters that the blue microbus of the abductors crossed Mayor Hanif flyover toll plaza at 2:53 pm. “The number of the microbus was Ctg metro Ga-17-8327. Minister of State for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal says a thorough investigation has been completed over the abduction of businessman AB Siddique.
“We have most of the details, like the vehicle used (for the abduction). We hope that he can be rescued soon,” Kamal told reporters Thursday.

The minister, however, claimed on Thursday that the law and order situation was normal.
“We did not expect such a thing. We all want to live in peace. But we can’t say the law and order situation has deteriorated because of this ,” Kamal said.
Asked on the Indian intelligence agency RAW’s nabbing an agent of ISI (Pakistani intelligence agency) from Dhaka, the minister said: “We have said nothing like that happened. We will challenge the news at the right time.
“India is a friendly-nation. It is not honourable for us that RAW would nab a spy from here. It (the incident reported) is not true.” – bdnews24.com
