The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked authorities concerned to provide wealth information of former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman
The commission on Monday sent letters to some authorities in this connection, according to an ACC official.ACC deputy director Khairul Huda sent the letters to the authorities of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh, General Post Office, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and Dhaka South and North City Corporations.
The ACC official said that the probe officer asked the authorities to give ACC all wealth and assets information of Mahbubur Rahman, who is also an Awami League lawmaker from Patuakhali-4 and his family members.
Meanwhile, the commission has received affidavits of five former and existing lawmakers of immediate past government from the Election Commission (EC). They are former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan, former state minister for water resources ministry Mahbubur Rahman, lawmaker of Cox’s Bazar-4 Abdur Rahman Badi, Dhaka-14 Aslamul Haque Aslam and Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) Enamul Haque.
According to the affidavit placed before the Election Commission, Mahbubur Rahman has become a landlord over the five-year owning 2,865 acres of land. He had only 20 acres of land in 2008.
He owns Tk 5.25 crore of immovable properties, up from Tk 36.33 lakh five years back. Besides, his wife has wealth worth Tk 1.27 crore at present.
According to his wealth statement submitted five years ago, his annual income stood at Tk 2.15 lakh that has raised Tk 1.50 crore which he claims comes from fisheries business.
Earlier on January 21, the commission assigned seven of its officials to conduct inquires against a minister, two state ministers and four lawmakers. – Staff Reporter
