ACC charge sheet former Speaker for graft

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday approved charge sheets in two graft cases against former Speaker Barrister M Jamiruddin Sircar and former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui. The Commission at its regular meeting today gave approval for submitting charge-sheets against the former Speaker and the former Deputy Speaker in the graft cases, the ACC sources said.   On January 16, 2001, ACC deputy assistant director and inquiry officer Akheruzzaman filed two cases against Jamiruddin Sircar and Akhter Hamid Siddiqui with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital on charge of misappropriating substantial amount of public money in the name of enjoying car facility.   As Akhter Hamid enjoyed additional car facility through the Speaker, Sircar was sued in both cases.   According to the statement of one case, former Deputy Speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui misappropriated over Tk 58 lakh as he enjoyed three additional cars when he was deputy speaker of parliament (during BNP rule).   In another case, Jamiruddin Sircar enjoyed two additional cars during the BNP rule and misappropriated public money around Tk 41 lakh.   On November 11 last year, the graft watchdog submitted charge-sheets in two other graft cases against Jamiruddin Sircar and Akhter Hamid Siddiqui on charge of misappropriating Tk7.2 lakh of public money. – UNB
