Action for sabotage done in name of movement: PM

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday told Parliament that the government would take lawful action against those had created anarchy and sabotage acts in the name of movement.
“We will hold the trials of those who were involved in carriing out sabotage and created anarchy in the name of movement, If they are not tried, they perpetrators will reoccur such incidents,” she said while replying to a question in Parliament from ruling party lawmaker Bahauddin Nasim.
The premier accused the BNP-Jamaat of killing general people, and said the BNP-Jamaat terrorists killed 16 members of police, 2 BGB and one army personnel in the name of hartal ad blockade.She said the people have seen that Jamaat-Shibir men laughed hearing screams of victims who were set ablaze by them. They cannot go unpunished. Legal measures will be taken against them otherwise such heinous activities will recur in future.
Hasina recalled the mayhem carried out by the then BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance, Hasina they wanted to halt the supply chain of goods and essential commodities to add suffering to people.
She claimed that the government was able to keep prices of essential commodities under control despite some problems.
“The BNP-Jamaat alliance had failed to create the worst situation as per their evil design,” she added.
Replying to another question Enamul Haque, Hasina mentioned that Bangladesh has achieved all the six targets set up by the UN millennium development goal.
The Awami League chief said her government has projected Bangladesh as a role model of development, rescuing the country from a terrible situation left by the BNP- Jamaat and the subsequent caretaker government.
On the Economist Intelligence Unit’s recent list on living standard of different cities in which Dhaka ranks the bottom, Hasina said air-pollution of any place is determined based carbon monoxide, sulpher-di-oxide and nitrogen-di-oxide.
But the environment Performance Index-2014 prepared air pollution report only based on particulate matter and use of biomass which was not logical.
She also said we all should consider the timeframe the paper [the Economist] considered to prepare the list and effect of Bangladesh’s political situation at that time.
The evil forces carried out heinous activities across the country at that time to thwart trial of war criminals and the Dhaka city was not left from their mayhem.
Petrol bomb on vehicles, killing people by setting fire on them, attack on pedestrians were the basis of the report of the paper, claimed the premier.
Hasina also said her government has already moved to formulate the 7th Five-Year Plan, which would be put into implementation after the end of the 6th Five-Year Plan next year.
Besides, the government is preparing a National Social Protection Strategy considering the necessity of a policy for the welfare of the ultra poor, she said.
She further said the National Social Protection Strategy will include the social safety net programmes, different social insurance programmes, labour market policies and self-employment programmes. – Staff Reporter
