Experts and scientists expressed that active public engagement is necessary to control and prevent the emergence and re-emergence of zoonotic diseases (diseases that transmit from animal to human and vice versa).They also urged the government to make appropriate policy and operate extensive survey to understand the zoonotic diseases and control them in our country.
They were speaking in the symposium and plenary lecture session of two-day long annual scientific conference of Bangladesh Society for Veterinary Education and Research (BSVER) at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh on Sunday.
Prof Dr Abdul Alim presented the keynote paper on ‘Emerging and Reemerging Parasitic Diseases of Zoonotic Importance’, the theme of the conference.
In his lecture Prof Muzahed shared his experience about the scenario of cervical cancer in rural women and commercial sex workers.
He said, the women who get early marriage, have more number of pregnancies, smoke and do sex with multiple partners are in more risk.
Later, Dr Eric, in his presentation on ‘Emerging Infectious Diseases’, makes the humans responsible for the emergence and reemergence of zoonotic diseases and asked all to work actively to fight the havoc.
A total 85 scientific papers and posters were presented in the two day-long conference. Teachers, researchers, experts and general practitioners of veterinary medicine throughout the country are participating in the conference.
