Advancing women’s leadership in elections roundtable Tuesday

Dhaka: Democracy International will organize a round-table discussion on Tuesday at Lakeshore Hotel in capital styled `Advancing Women’s Leadership in Elections’ to highlight opportunities to strengthen and advance women’s leadership and participation in the upcoming national elections. This program will be organized under Strengthening Political Landscape in Bangladesh project (SPL) funded by USAID and UKAID.Mentionable, through advocacy, capacity building and networking, the `Narir Joye Shobar Joy’ campaign boasts a growing multiparty network of 20,000 women leaders across the country and has already supported parties to include 5,449 women leaders in 430 grassroots committees. At the event, approximately 150 women political leaders from Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) across the country will present their joint recommendations on opportunities to support and advance women’s leadership within political parties and in elections to key central party decision makers and the Chief Election Commissioner.
