AFC U-16 WCQ: BD girls emerge unbeaten group champions

Dhaka – Hosts Bangladesh smartly clinched the Group C title of the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers with all-win
record with another comfortable 4-0 goals victory against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Monday.After the day’s last group match, Bangladesh secured full 15 points from straight five matches to earn the right to play in the final round of the Asian U-16 Women’s Championship to be held in Thailand in September next year,UNB news agency reported.On the way to the group title, Bangladesh earlier beat stronger Iran 3-0, Singapore 5-0, Kyrgyzstan 10-0 and Chinese Taipei 4-2.With the feat, Bangladeshi women’s achieved a rare honour of playing in the round of the prestigious AFC meet for the first time alongside
their giant continental rivals like North Korea, Japan, China, Thailand and Australia.In the day’s last group match, captain Krishna Rani Sarkar struck two, Anuching Mogini and substitute Tohura Khatun netted one each for Bangladesh who dominated the first half by 1-0 goal.Krishna Rani put Bangladesh ahead in the very 3rd minute of the match by a header, capitalising on a curved corner of Marzia from the left flank (1-0).In the 36th minute, Bangladesh defender Shamsunnahar, who converted two spot kicks rightly in the previous match against Chinese Taipei, deprived Bangladesh of one more goal as her penalty shot went wide.Seven minutes after the breather, the skipper again doubled the Bangladesh margin by a right footed placing shot utilising a corner kick of Sanjida Akhter (2-0).Forward Anuching Mogini scored the 3rd goal for the home side in the 57th minute by a nice shot off a through pass by Maria Manda (3-0).Substitute forward Tohura Khatun sealed the fate of the match in the 87th minute by a good header from close when a cross of Monika Chakma came her way, slipping from the grip of UAE custodian Dalal Al Hammadi (4-0).Bangladesh team: Mahmuda Akhter, Sheuly Azim, Shamsunnahar, Nargis Khatun, Masura Parvin, Sanjida Akhter, Mirshrat Jahan Moushumi (Sirat
