Agitated people attack N’ganj Councillor Nur Hossain’s office

A group of agitating people on Thursday morning vandalized and set fire to the personal office of city councillor Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the case filed in connection with the abduction of slain city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four associates. Witnesses said the agitated people vandalized and set fire to the office of Nur Hossain, also vice-president of Awami League Siddhirganj unit, inside the city corporation truck terminal at Shimrail around 11 am. They also torched the pandel of a fair beside Nur Hossain’s office. On Sunday last, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted while they were going to capital Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on Wednesday morning. Another body, believed to be of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on Thursday morning. The recovery of the bodies sparked violent protests among the family members, relatives, and the locals.
