The Awami League-led 14-party alliance on Friday urged the Election Commission not to make any reshuffle in the civil and police administrations without any specific allegation.
“It’s the absolute jurisdiction of the Election Commission. But we urged the Commission not to make any reshuffle as per BNP’s will without any specific allegation,” said Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua. He was talking to reporters after a 12-member delegation of the ruling alliance, led by him, held a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the afternoon.
Dilip Barua alleged that BNP and Jatiya Oikkyafront were trying to make the upcoming national election questionable. “BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront are trying to kill two birds with one stone. They’re preparing for the election on one hand and trying to destroy the morale of those concerned on the other through making imaginary and baseless allegations against the Election Commission and the administration so that they can’t arrange fair and peaceful election.”
He said BNP has constantly been making speeches violating the electoral code of conduct. “Although Oikyafront chief Dr Kamal Hossain is a lawyer, he is saying nothing in this regard. The demands which BNP raised are motivated and they want to make the election questionable,” he added.
Samyabadi Dal leader alleged that BNP and Oikyafront want to implement their secret agenda destroying the election atmosphere. He urged the Election Commission to ensure so that there is no torture on minority communities before and after the election and that they can cast their votes without any hindrance.
Dilip Barua also alleged that BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is pushing the election towards violence asking the leaders and activists to control the polling stations.Secretary General ruling party alliance Jatiya Party (Manju) Sheikh Shahidul Islam said they will provide all-out cooperation to the Election Commission for holding a fair election.
The 14-party alliance delegation handed over a letter to the EC mentioning that BNP and the Jatiya Oikyafront placed false and fabricated allegations before the Commission as part of their plot to foil the election.In the letter, it also said all the political parties and allies that are going to participate in the election should be respectable to the constitution and refrain from unlawful activities.
But despite being convicted, fugitive BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has taken the interview of party nomination seekers which is the violation of the constitution as it says no convicted prisoner can choose candidates for the national election, the letter said.Such acts are contempt of constitution and contradictory to the state regulations, the letter said, urging the Election Commission to take action in this regard.
