The ruling Awami League-backed Blue Panel swept the polls to Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (Duta) held on Tuesday. The Blue Panel bagged nine out of 15 posts while its rival BNP-blessed White Panel got only 6. Prof Dr AK Fazlul Haque Shah of the DU Marketing Department conducted the election as election commissioner. Starting at 10am, the voting continued till 2pm at the Duta Club. The Blue Panel winners are: Dean of the Social Sciences Faculty and current Duta president Prof Dr Farid Uddin Ahmad (729) president, Dean of the Business Faculty Prof Dr Rubaiyatul Islam (706) treasurer, Dean of the Earth and Environment Faculty Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal(718) general secretary and Dr Ziaur Rahman (712) joint secretary while other bearers are Prof Dr Abul Barkat (705), Prof Dr Golam Rabbani (658), Prof Dr Akhteruzzaman (681), Dr Aftab Ali Sheikh (705) and Dr Shabita Rezouna Rahman (623). Those who came out victorious from the White Panel are: Prof Dr Md Akther Hossain Khan (681) vice-president while other bearers are Prof Dr Sadrul Amin (627), Prof Dr Abul Hasnat (715), Prof Dr ABM Obidul Islam (686), M Lutfar Rahman (776) and Dr Laila Nur Islam (635). Some 1,388 voters out total 1,789 exercised their franchise in the polls. In the previous Duta election, Awami League-backed Blue Panel won eight posts, including that of president, while BNP-Jamaat-backed White Panel bagged seven posts, including that of general secretary. – UNB
