AL, Bnp will invite intervention if they don’t sit together: Manna

Voicing concern over reluctance about engaging in dialogue by BNP and Awami League, Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna on Friday said the two parties are paving the path for undemocratic forces to intervene in country’s politics.
“There’s no chance of intervention by undemocratic forces in our politics if AL and BNP can sit together. If they fail to find a solution, they themselves, not us, will invite an undemocratic intervention. It could be a third force –military or foreigners,” he said.Manna came up with the remarks at a press conference organised by Nagorik Oikya at Topkhana Road in the city.
Criticising the comments of a number of ministers of the government like “No dialogue with dacoits” Manna said, “If the AL government can sit with the armed rebels of the Chittagong Hill tracts and strike a peace deal then why can’t they sit with Khaleda Zia? Is Khaleda Zia is a ‘bigger dacoit’ than them?”
Alleging that ‘arrest-trade’ is going on in the name of curbing violence, Manna said “On one hand police are arresting BNP leaders and activists on the other ruling party leaders are recommending the release of their arrested party men.
Terming the ongoing political violence as ‘evil politics’, Manna said such violence must be stopped and public will support the government’s any positive move to resolve the crisis.
Manna announced a sit-in program titled ‘Want Peace-No terrorism and violence’ on February 14 in front of Shikha Chirantan at Suhrawardi Udyan at 3 pm. – UNB
