Bnp not unnerved as 500 workers killed, 4.5 lakh face cases: Fakhrul

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday claimed that his party is not frustrated despite killing of more than 500 leaders and activists of the party and its front organisations implicating about 4.5 lakh others in several thousand “false cases.”
“At least 500 leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations have been killed and about four and half a lakh were implicated in several thousand false cases during the present government,” he said while addressing a meeting at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.Despite all these, he said, the BNP is not frustrated as it believes that all repressions and the misrules will end one day.
Amerdesh Pariber (Amerdesh Family) organised the meeting to mark three-year anniversary of imprisonment of Mahmudur Rahman, the acting editor of the vernacular daily Amerdesh.
Fakhrul alleged that the ruling Awami League was suffering from diseases of arrogance for a long time and does not practice politics of tolerance.
“It does not tolerate dissident views and does not do politics of tolerance,” he said.
The BNP leader demanded immediate release of Mahmudur Rahman saying that he has been detained for a long for speaking truth.
He called upon the people to forge a national unity along with intra-party unity ignoring all silly mistakes.

UNB adds: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the ruling Awami League cannot tolerate alternative views as it has been suffering from an ‘ego syndrome’.
“Awami League has long been suffering from an ‘ego syndrome’. They can’t take the opinions of others as they don’t do the politics of tolerance,” he said. The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a protest programme at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh arranged by Amar Desh Paribar, marking the three years of jailing of Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman.
“Surely, we’ve made some mistakes in the past, but we’ve to move forward correcting those for restoration of democracy. We’ve to unite our party men alongside creating a national unity to have democracy restored.”
Mentioning that the country’s people have a long history of wining fight sgainst misrule, the BNP leader said the way people achieved victory against Pakistanis’ misrule, the same way they will win the fight against the current regime’s misrule.
