Dhaka: BNP on Sunday voiced frustration that the ruling Awami League’s 20th council could not yield any positive outcome as per people’s demand for overcoming the country’s political crisis. UNB News Agency Reported.
“Awami League has held a grand carnival in the name of its council. Dhaka and all most all other cities were decorated with lightings, breaking all previous records… but nothing was said in it in line with people’s hopes and demand,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He further said, “Lack of democracy is the main political crisis now in Bangladesh. They (AL leaders) did not say any thing how they would restore it and people’s all snatched rights.”
The BNP leader came up with remarks while speaking at a discussion arranged by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote at Kochi-Kacha Building auditorium in the city’s Segunbagicha area, marking late film director Chashi Nazrul Islam’s 75th birth anniversary.
Fakhrul said they had hoped that the nation would see directions from Awami League’s council about restoration of democracy. “We’d also hoped that the Prime Minister would unveil outlines as to how democracy can be restored, a dialogue can be arranged and a negotiation can be reached with the opposition parties.”
But, unfortunately, he said the nation did not get any such direction. “The nation has remained in uncertainty as it was before, and it may deepen further in the coming days.”
The BNP leader said people did not forget how Awami League deceived the nation by holding the January-5 election snatching people’s voting right.
He said their 1000 leaders and activists were killed, 500 made disappeared, thousands maimed, and over a lakh others are on the run facing ‘false’ cases for waging a movement for restoration of democracy. “This terror politics has established a true fascism in Bangladesh.”
The BNP secretary general urged the country’s people to get united for getting back their all ‘snatched’ rights, including voting one.
