AL-led 14-Party rules out talks with Bnp

Leaders of the ruling Awami League and 14-party combine on Tuesday said dialogue with BNP amounts to undermining the spirit of the country’s Liberation War.
“Holding dialogue with BNP means giving them political concession despite carrying out subversive activities by it in the name of political programmes,” said Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion, titled ‘Spirit of the Liberation War and militancy and communalism’, organised by Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal at the Jatiya Press Club.Ambia was critical of the BNP and alleged that the party does not believe in Bangladesh’s independence and its existence as well.
He called upon the BNP-led alliance to take part in the upcoming elections to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong City corporations shunning violence.
Participating in the discussion, Awami League office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap said BNP has declared a war against people. “No one in the past could assume state power by declaring a war against its own people.”
Terming non-political the ongoing transport blockade and hartal programmes as those turned violent, he said the BNP enforced its programmes to save corrupt people and the war criminals from trial.
Samyabadi Dal general secretary and former Industries Minister Dilip Barua said a vested quarter is hatching conspiracies against the country. “No conspiracy will be successful due to the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
