AL names 230 candidates: 70 for partners. Nanak, Muhith axed

Dhaka, Nov 25 – The ruling Awami League has distributed of its party tickets among the selected candidates who will contest the upcoming general elections slated for December 30.AL general secretary Obaidul Quader inaugurated the distribution of the party tickets among the eligible candidates from the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on Sunday morning.
Later, at a press conference at the Dhanmandi office, the AL general secretary told the reporters that his party has already selected 230 candidates for the party nomination for contesting the next general elections.
“The selected party leaders were taking their party tickets. Today we shall not give the list of the party leaders but we shall give you a total list of 300 candidates including the leaders of the alliance partners on Monday,” he said.
AL heavyweight candidates who were dropped from the party nominations are finance minister Abdul Maal Abdul Muhith, Sylhet-1, Dr Abdul Momen his younger brother got the nomination from this constituency, AL north city unit general secretary Sadek Khan got party nomination from Dhaka-13 where party’s joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, sitting mp, was an aspirant.
Monzur Hossain Bulbul, chairman of Rupali Bank, got the nomination in place of joint general secretary Abdur Rahman, sitting mp from the Faridpur-1 constituency, AL office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap got party nomination in place of AL organising secretary AFM Bahauddin
Nasim, from Madaripur-3, and AL central leader Iqbal Hossain Apu got party nomination instead of BM Mozammel Haque, from Sharietpur -1.
Awami League dropped two parties sitting member of the parliaments Abdur Rahman Bodi, of Cox’s Bazar-4 and Amanur Rahman Rana of Tangail-4, constituency on charges of cases filed against them.
New faces who got AL tickets: The AL this time also has given nomination tickets to some new faces young and old as candidates to contest the upcoming parliamentary polls.
SM Shahjada Saju, who is also the nephew of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, has got the nomination from Patuakhali-3 (Golachipa-Dashmina) constituency. He was a former Chhatra League leader.
The celebrated cricketer fondly known as the “Narail Express” among fans Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is going to vie in the election from Narail-2 (Lohagara) constituency.
Another new face in the election train, party’s organizing secretary Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel will contest from Chattogram-9 constituency.
AL Central working committee member Iqbal Hossain Apu, the party’s another new face to contest the polls, is a candidate for Shariatpur-1 (Sadar and Jajira Upazila) constituency.
Party’s organising secretary AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem is going to contest from Shariatpur-2 (Naria-Bhedarganj) constituency.
AL City unit leader (north) Sadek Khan and former Dhaka University alma mater will contest from the Dhaka-13 constituency.
Former Inspector General of Police Noor Mohammad has got the AL ticket to contest Kishoreganj- 2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency.
Dr Abdul Momen will contest from the Sylhet-1 constituency in which finance minister AMA Muhith is the current parliament member.
Other new faces on the AL boat are Jakir Hossain from Kurigram-4, Dr Abdul Aziz from Sirajganj-3, AKM Sarwar Jahan from Kushtia-1, Selim Altaf from Kushtia-4, Mohammad Shafiqul Ajam Khan from Jhenaidah-3, Sheikh Tanmoy from Bagherhat-2, Sheikh Salauddin Jewel from Khulna-2, Akhtaruzzman Babu from Khulna-6, Shah Jahan Majumder from
Patuakhali-1, Shamsul Haque Reza from Patuakhali-2, Mohibur Rahman from Patuakhali-4, Murad Hassan from Jamalpur-4, Mawlana Ruhul Amin Madani from Mymensingh-7, Manu Majumder from Netrakona-4, Benjir Ahmed from Dhaka-20, Iqbal Hossain Sabuj from Gazipur-3, Manjur Hossain from Faridpur-2, Md Ebadul Karim Bulbul from Brahmanbaria-5, Selima Ahmad Marry from Commila-2.
Earlier, AL sold 4023 nominations forms to the aspirant party leaders in four days starting from November-9 at the party president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmandi political office.
Then 11-member party parliamentary board headed by Sheikh Hasina finalized the party nominations after a holding a series of meetings at the Sheikh Hasina’s official residence Gana Bhaban.
The AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will contest in the December 30 polls from Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6 while Bangladesh National Cricket Team ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza from Narail-2 constituency. – Staff Reporter
