Dhaka, Feb 11 – The ruling Awami League has submitted the list of its 43 candidates names to contest the election for 50 seats exclusively reserved for women in the 11th parliament. The polls are scheduled to be held on March 4.
AL-delegation led by the party General Secretary Obaidul Quader submitted the list of the nominees to the returning officer at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon on Monday.

Meanwhile, main opposition Jatiya Party also submitted a list of their four nominees to the EC earlier in the day. The JP nominees are Salma Islam, Raushan Ara Mannan, Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury and Nazma Akhter while the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh submitted the name of its lone candidate Lutfunnessa Khan.
Since the MPs of the women’s reserved seats are elected by the directly elected members of Parliament, and as the Awami League enjoys an absolute majority in the House, the question of votes is irrelevant here.
Notably, there had been no voting for electing the reserved women MPs in the last three Parliaments. – Staff Reporter
