Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said her government understands only one theory — ensuring the basic rights of people – and sharply criticised those who often come up with their various ‘theories and advice’ about Bangladesh future.
“Many people are saying many things that Bangladesh has this potential and that potential, but the Awami League government understands only one theory and that’s ensuring the basic rights of people,” she said.Sheikh Hasina whi is also the President of the ruling Awami League, said this in her introductory speech at the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting held at her official residence Ganabhaban.
“We understand only one theory – we’ll have to provide food to people so that they can have their everyday meals, we have to provide homes for the homeless people, we have to provide healthcare facility, we have to ensure a better life for all, that’s it. We’ll move forward with this simple theory and want to implement that,” she said.
She reaffirmed her commitment to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country before 2021 and a developed one within 2041.
Criticing those whom she termed ‘theorists,’ the Prime Minister recalled the fate of the last caretaker government which had strictly followed the theories of those people.
“That caretaker government sank following their theories…the AL government doesn’t want to go down following those theories,” Hasina said without mentioning the names of the theorists.
The AL chief said her government wants to cut down the poverty to 10 percent during her current tenure.
Hasina also criticised the BNP chief for misappropriating the money of orphans. “Can you imagine one can swindle the money of orphans, I can understand one can make money abusing power, but it’s not comprehensible how one can misappropriate the money of orphans!”
She blasted the BNP and its allies for doing business in the name of religion and setting fire to mosques and the copies of holy Quran. – UNB
