AL workers asked to work together for victory in Gazipur

Dhaka, April 29 – The ruling Awami League leaders have called upon the Gazipur city unit leaders and workers to work together in a bid to make the party symbol Nouka victorious in the May 15 city elections. They made the call at a joint meeting organized by Gazipur district AL, at Kaliakoir in the district. Central leaders including AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AKM Mozammel Haque, Simin Hossian Rimi were also the present in the joint meeting.
Speaking at the meeting Nanok said, “We will have to work together in the coming polls to ensure our party symbol Nouka’s victory. I hope all leaders and workers of Gazipur will remain united and work together for party candidate Jahangir Alam.”
At the joint meeting AL mayoral hopeful Jahangir Alam in teary eyes called upon the city leaders to remain united and seek votes in favour of Nouka (boat) to make it victorious in the coming city polls.
“I am your bother. Don’t misunderstand me. Please seek votes in favour of party symbol Nouka. Please go to door-to-door and seek votes for Nouka forgetting all differences,” he said.
Meanwhile, AL insiders think intra-party feuds might be a big hurdle on the way of securing party candidate’s victory in the upcoming Gazipur mayoral race slated for May 15.
They also think that if the party high-ups are not able to minimize internal conflict among the Gazipur city unit leaders, the victory of Boat, electoral symbol of AL, will be difficult in the ensuing city polls.
However, the Awami League nominated Gazipur city unit general secretary Jahangir Alam for contesting the polls though the city president and senior AL leader Azmat Ullah Khan was very much optimistic to get party nod to contest the city polls.
In the last Gazipur city polls, held on July 6, 2013, Gazipur city unit AL president Azmat Ullah Khan was the AL candidate and defeated to BNP candidate MA Mannan, while Jahangir Alam contested the polls as a rebel candidate. – Staff Reporter
