Alleged human trafficker held with ‘ransom money’

Dhaka – Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday arrested an alleged international human trafficker along with ransom money of Tk 3 lakh from Jatrabari area in the city.
The arrested person was identified as Akhter Hossain, 29.The Special Super (Organised Crime) of CID Mirza Abdullahel Baqui told journalists that they had an information that members of International human Trafficking gang kept hostage Shahidullah, a Bangladeshi expatriate in South Africa. The gangsters had been demanding Tk 25 lakh as ransom from victim’s relative in Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, when Akhter was receiving Tk 3 lakh, a portion of the ransom money, at Jatrabari area at around 10:00 am, a special CID team (Organised crime) arrested him, the SS (Organised Crime) said.
We are trying to arrested other members of the international human trafficking gang here, the CID SS Abdullahel Baqui said. – News Desk
